
what we've accomplished
Bookworm's primary initiative is to improve at-risk youth's literacy skills through the implementation of specific programming and events. So far, we have run a variety of events including those listed below.
February, 2022
Educated + Empowered advocacy event
For five days in February, 2022, we held a virtual advocacy event through Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. This event featured interactive content, showcasing educational and community advocates from across Canada. In particular, the Educated + Empowered event focused on issues of economic disparity, houselessness, and marginalization


JulY-August, 2021
Summer Book Club
Just this past summer, we ran an online book club for youth aged 8 to 12. Each Thursday evening, students were welcomed to the free event where we met to discuss new literature with an emphasis on building comprehension skills. To adhere to COVID-19 guidelines, we met virtually and had quite a successful summer engaging inspiring students.

educational Resources Series
Over the winter months, it can be difficult for students to stay motivated in their journey to improve literacy skills. In the Winter of 2021, we launched the Educational Resource series to combat this issue. Five sessions were presented over IGTV for anyone to watch or review as they pleased!

December Study @ Home Campaign
The December Study @ Home Campaign offered individuals the opportunity to purchase self-care boxes to be delivered around the holidays. The funds raised through the initiative were then utilized by the Uganda-based organization ACT for HOPE to purchase school books for 30 at-risk youth in the Jinja District.

Community Letters of Appreciation
This letter campaign compiled thank-you letters written by youth in the Niagara region to frontline workers. The letters not only helped students to strengthen their literacy skills but also gave them the opportunity to share their own gratitude!
